A 100-kilowatt solar power plant at the Tehran International Permanent Fairground was inaugurated as the first phase of the clean energy supply project. The plant will generate 170 megawatt-hours of energy annually, sufficient to supply electricity for the lighting of the fairground’s eastern halls.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Sodeyf Beykzadeh, Managing Director
of the Islamic Republic of Iran International Exhibitions Company, emphasized
the role of exhibitions in advancing modern energy infrastructure:
“Given the current electricity imbalance and the national movement toward
renewable energy production, we considered it our duty to contribute to
reducing the pressure on the country’s power grid. With a total area of 80
hectares, the Tehran Fairground has the potential to generate up to 6 megawatts
of electricity, and today we have taken the first step.”
He further stated:
“Our goal is to achieve this capacity within the year, ensuring the
fairground benefits from stable and sustainable electricity. This project will
be the largest solar power plant within Tehran, with the key advantage of local
electricity production and reduced transmission costs.”
Mr. Beykzadeh also noted that alongside solar development, other
infrastructures have been strengthened, including a 2,500-cubic-meter
water storage system to safeguard the fairground against potential
water shortages:
“As the country’s trade showcase, the Tehran International Fairground can,
through such projects, serve as a model for other institutions in the field of
clean energy.”
During the ceremony, Ali Ghaseminejad, Head of the Power Plant Development
Group for Industries and Solar Parks at SATBA, described the initiative as a mega-project
in the renewable energy sector:
“The use of domestically produced panels in this solar power plant is a
valuable step in supporting local manufacturing.”
He added that out of 400 lighting poles across the fairground, 180 have already been equipped with solar systems, and by the completion of the project this number will reach 360. The National Development Fund of Iran and SATBA have also committed to supporting the provision of equipment for these projects.
The solar power plant has been built with 152 solar panels and aluminum structures, covering an area of 1,200 square meters, and is now connected to the national electricity grid. Under the development plan, the second phase will involve the installation of solar systems on exhibition hall rooftops, producing between 1 to 3 megawatts of electricity.
